Enekwechi set to return to Diamond League action in Eugene five years after debut

Reigning African Games Shot Put king, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi is set to return to the Wanda Diamond League stage later this month (May 25) at the Prefontaine Classics in Eugene, Oregon.

The Nigerian has been listed among the seven athletes that have so far been confirmed for the Shot Put event.

The 30 year old made his Diamond League debut in June 2019 at the Golden Gala – Pietro Mennea in Rome, Italy where he threw 20.54m to place eighth among the 11 athletes that competed on the night.

Enekwechi has been consistently throwing 21m this year and has thrown over the mark nine times so far. His return to the Diamond League arena could be the needed boost he needs to make it to the final of his event at the Olympics for the second straight edition.

He has secured the qualification for the Games and will feel he can do better than his 12th placing three years ago in Tokyo, Japan.

Meanwhile, Tobi Amusan will not be competing in the 100m hurdles in Eugene, the place where she made history last September as the second woman to win the event three straight times.

The world record holder is not among the nine names listed in an event not among the Diamond League events in Eugene.

Reigning Olympic champion, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, reigning world outdoor champion, Danielle Willaims, reigning world indoor champion and record holder, Deyvnne Charlton, Diamond League 100m hurdles record holder, Kendra Harisson and 2019 world champion, Nia Ali are among the big names listed to compete.

Ese Brume will also not be part of the big night as the long jump is not among the events listed for the competition.
