Enyimba eager to bounce back from loss to Remo Stars, host Sunshine Stars in Aba

Finidi bemoans team's loss to Remo Stars midweek

Following their 1-0 loss to Remo Stars in a rescheduled NPFL game mid-week in Aba, Enyimba International will be seeking to return to winning ways against Sunshine Stars at the Enyimba international stadium in Aba on Saturday.

The two-time CAF Champions League winner have won eight of 19 games played against the visitors in the Nigerian topflight league with Sunshine winning just thrice while eight games have ended in draws.

Until the loss to Remo Stars, Enyimba seemed to have recovered their form winning their last three matches.

The Peoples Elephant will be eager to return to that form by beating Sunshine Stars who have drawn their last two away games after losing the first three.

Meanwhile, Enyimba head coach Finidi George said ‘the best team didn’t win’ after watching his side surrender all three points to Remo Stars in a rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match in Aba on Wednesday.

Former Enyimba forward Samad Kadiri’s 33rd minute goal proved decisive as the Sky Blue Stars secured a 1-0 win against the reigning champions in a game the hosts dominated, creating and wasting lots of scoring chances.

Asked if Remo Stars were the better side, the former Ajax and Real Betis star said: ‘No, it is not the best team that won. You saw all the chances that we had.

‘They didn’t play in the second half apart from some long balls they tried to use. But I think we gave our all. All the chances came from Enyimba in the second half.

‘If we had converted some of those chances, we would not be talking about which team is the best team.’

The defeat leaves the 2-time African champions 5th on the NPFL standings, with 16 points from 10 matches – 4pts behind table-toppers Lobi Stars.

Finidi George’s side will next face Sunshine Stars in Aba on Saturday as they continue their title defence.
