Enyimba keen to extend unbeaten run against Abia Warriors to nine games

The Peoples’ Elephant, Enyimba FC of Aba are ready to extend their unbeaten run against neighbours Abia Warriors to nine games when both sides meet Sunday at
the Enyimba international stadium in Aba.

Enyimba have not lost to Abia Warriors since they crashed 3-1 in September 2016 and club’s head coach, Finidi George says his side are well-prepared and
ready for what he expects to be an ‘interesting’ Abia Derby in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

With bragging rights and territorial supremacy at stake, aside the maximum points available, Enyimba are confident of a ninth straight win against their
neighbours.

Looking ahead of the encounter, the gaffer, who led Enyimba to a record-extending 9th league title last season, believes the 2-time African champions have
the ‘edge,’ as they were not in action in midweek.

The former Super Eagles winger added that his team will put in the work to ensure they beat Abia Warriors.

‘I think for the Abia Derby, it is going to be an interesting one,’ the 52-year-old former Ajax and Real Betis stated.

‘We are prepared, and since we did not play midweek match, that has given us more time to prepare the players. And I think they are ready for it.

‘We are playing at home, so definitely, we have an edge, but football being what it is, you never know. But I think my players are ready for the encounter
and they are going to do their best to make sure that we win it.’

The People’s Elephant currently sit 5th on the NPFL standings, with 19 points from 11 matches, though with a game in hand.
