Erik ten Hag agrees four-year deal to become Man United’s new manager
Erik ten Hag has agreed a four-year deal to become Manchester United’s new manager from next season.
The 52-year-old will take over interim boss Ralf Rangnick, who was brought in on an interim basis to replace Ole Gunnar Solksjaer in November 2021.
Unless one last hurdle suddenly appears Ten Hag will become United coach in the summer, and confirmation of his arrival is set to take place as early as the end of April.
Ten Hag wanted to ensure he will be involved with transfer decisions before making a decision to leave Ajax for Old Trafford.
United say a formal agreement is yet to be signed, but they have stated talks are at an advanced stage for a new coach.
It’s understood Ten Hag was United’s preferred candidate for the job, ahead of Paris Saint-Germain’s Mauricio Pochettino.
One reason for the long wait for an announcement from United is to not upset Ajax, as they are involved in a title battle for the Eredivisie title with PSV Eindhoven, who they also play in the KNVB Cup final this Sunday.
Ajax are four points ahead of PSV with five games remaining, so the league leaders may have requested to wait until after the end of the season to announce Ten Hag’s departure to United.
