Erling Haaland Makes UEFA Champions League History
Becomes first player to score 25 goals in first 20 games of the competition
Erling Haaland has become the first player in UEFA Champions League history to score 25 goals in his first 20 appearances in the competition.
The Norwegian claimed a brace of goals in Manchester City’s 4-0 demolition of Sevilla at the Estadio R. Sanchez Pizjuan in Seville on Tuesday night.
The 22 year old continued his sensational start to his Manchester City career by volleying home his 11th goal of the season to give Pep Guardiola’s side a 20th minute lead.
After Phil Foden doubled the visitors advantage with a fine 59th minute effort, Haaland, the goal machine then struck again on 66 minutes, latching onto a rebound after a Foden shot had been parried to make it 12 goals for the season.
Nobody in history has scored 25 Champions League goals quicker than the Norwegian.
Haaland, in the process also became the fourth player in the competition’s history to score in his first appearance for three different teams after Fernando Morientes, Javier Saviola and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The Norwegian scored a hat-trick on his debut in the competition in September 2019 in Red Bull Salzburg 6-2 demolition of Belgian side, KRC Genk at the Red Bull Arena Salzburg.
He scored a brace in his debut for German Bundesliga side, Borussia Dortmund in their 2-1 defeat of Paris Saint-Germain in February 2020 at the Signal Iduna Park.
