Ese Brume begins chase for Diamond League points at Meeting de Paris on Sunday
Reigning African Games and African Championships champion, Ese Brume will begin her race to the 2024 Wanda Diamond League final on Sunday, July 7 at the Charléty stadium in Paris where the Meeting de Paris, the eighth leg of athletics’ premier one-day meeting series will hold.
The Nigerian missed the opening leg of the event at the Suzhou Diamond League meeting in Suzhou, China due to visa issues and the 28 year old will be keen to get on track as there are just three meetings left where the long jump event will hold before the final in Brussels in September.
Brume made history as the first Nigerian field eventer to compete in the Diamond League final last September in Eugene, Oregon, USA.
She was denied the chance to make another piece of history as the first Nigerian in the field event to be crowned a Diamond League champion when she lost the gold medal on countback to reigning world champion, Ivava Vuleta despite both jumping 6.85m.
The African record holder will face familiar foes in Paris including her African sister, Koala Marthe of Burkina Faso who she defeated to win the African Games and African Championships titles this year.
The Nigerian will also face reigning Olympics and two-time world champion, Mihambo Malaika of Germany who is also the world leader in the event with 7.22m, European Championships silver medalist, Larissa Iapichino, French girl Kpatcha Hilary and Quanesha Burks, the 2015 NCAA outdoor and 2016 NCAA indoor champion.
Koala leads the standings after the conclusion of one of the four meetings with the eight points she garnered for winning in Suzhou.
