European Athletics Unveils September Athlete Of The Month Shortlists

European Athletics has unveiled the five-man and five-woman shortlists for its September 2026 Athlete of the Month awards, with world champions, European record-holders and Diamond League winners among the nominees.
The awards recognise performances achieved during September, with fans invited to vote for their preferred athletes before voting closes on October 11.
Frenchwoman Agathe Guillemot earned her nomination after becoming world road mile champion in a European record of 4:22.74, while Italy’s Larissa Iapichino was crowned World Ultimate long jump champion and finished runner-up at the Diamond League Final.
Norway’s Henriette Jæger was runner-up in the 400m at both the Diamond League Final and World Ultimate Championships before running 48.78 at ATHLOS, the fastest time by a European since 1996.
Poland’s Klaudia Kazimierska won both the Diamond League and World Ultimate 1500m titles and clocked a world-leading 3:54.05, while Switzerland’s Audrey Werro completed a September double by winning the 800m at both events.
The men’s shortlist features Sweden’s Andreas Almgren, who became world half marathon champion in a European record of 58:06, and Slovenia’s Kristjan Čeh, the Diamond League discus champion who recorded three throws beyond 70 metres in nine days.
Germany’s Robert Farken was crowned world road mile champion, while Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen won the World Ultimate 5000m title before taking silver over 5km at the World Running Championships.
Italy’s Gianmarco Tamberi rounds out the men’s shortlist after clearing a world-leading 2.37m to win the World Ultimate high jump title and also claiming the Mediterranean Games title.
The winners will be announced across European Athletics’ social media channels shortly after voting closes.
