Everton 3-0 Crystal Palace: Iwobi Named Man of the Match

Moves within an assist of equalling Yak as second joint assists provided in the EPL

Alex Iwobi was named man of the match in Everton’s 3-0 defeat of Crystal Palace at Goodison Park on Saturday.

The Nigerian, named in the starting X1 for the 12th consecutive Premier League game this season and 27th in 27 games in the competition so far this year provided two assists to help the Toffees return to winning ways after losing their last three games.

Iwobi created two big chances and made three key passes to ensure he was picked by Premier League experts as the best on the pitch for both sides.

This is the first time this season a bonafide Nigerian player will be named the official man of the match by the Premier League.

Iwobi’s two assists in the game have taken his total tally this season to five, bettered only by the nine provided by Kevin De Bruyne so far in the competition and it is the most provided by a Nigerian player so far in 2022.

The Everton midfielder has also moved within an assist of the 26 Yakubu Aiyegbeni bagged in 252 games to become the second Nigerian in Premier League history with the most assists after Nwankwo Kanu who bagged 29 assists in 273 appearances.

Iwobi also played his 110th game for the Toffees with 95 coming in the Premier League.
