Ezekiel, Onojuvwevwo, Chukwuma, and Ofili Headline Lone Star Meet in Texas
Nigeria’s rising track and field stars are set to light up the USATF Lone Star Grand Prix this Friday at Texas A&M University’s E.B. Cushing Stadium, part of the prestigious World Athletics Continental Tour Gold series.
Leading the charge is Nathaniel Ezekiel, who will run his first 400m hurdles of the season.
The 22-year-old came within 0.01 seconds of equalling the African record of 47.10 seconds, held by Zambia’s Samuel Matete, when he finished fourth at the World Athletics Championships last year in Tokyo.
Ezekiel has raced only twice over 400m this season and missed the opening two Diamond League meets, but expectations remain high following his remarkable 2025 campaign.
He will be joined by compatriot Ella Onojuvwevwo, who recently signed with NIKE and transitioned from the NCAA circuit to the professional ranks.
Onojuvwevwo will make her pro debut in the women’s 400m event, marking a significant milestone in her career.
In the sprints, Rosemary Chukwuma returns to action in the women’s 100m after claiming two individual silver medals at the African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana.
Meanwhile, Olympic 200m finalist Favour Ofili will line up in her specialty event, adding further star power to Nigeria’s contingent.
