Falconets Begin Final Polish Push Ahead of FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup
Nigeria’s U20 women’s national team, the Falconets, have settled into their training camp in Trzebnica, Poland, as preparations intensify ahead of the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.
The two-time runners-up began training on Wednesday at the Stadion Miejski, Fair Play Arena, barely 24 hours after arriving in Poland, with Head Coach Moses Aduku and his technical crew immediately stepping up the team’s preparations.
The sessions focused on tactical organisation, technical execution, physical conditioning and team cohesion as the Falconets continue to fine-tune their approach for the global championship.
Nigeria will further test its readiness with two international friendlies, against Poland on August 28 and South Korea on September 1.
The encounter with hosts Poland will be played at the Municipal Stadium in Brzeg from 12 noon local time on Friday, while the clash with South Korea will take place at the Remes Resort & Spa Football Stadium from 4pm local time.
The two matches are expected to provide the technical crew with valuable opportunities to assess the team’s progress, test different tactical options and expose the players to the pace and intensity of international competition ahead of the tournament.
The Falconets’ squad has also undergone two changes, with captain Joy Igbokwe and defender Faridat Abdulwahab unable to secure visas for the trip. They have been replaced by Vivian Kachi and Alaba Olabiyi.
Aduku has continued to demand maximum commitment from his players as the team works on the final details of its preparations in Trzebnica.
Nigeria is drawn in Group F alongside Spain, China PR and New Caledonia and will open its campaign against Spain on September 7 before facing China PR on September 10 and New Caledonia on September 13.
The Falconets, who finished runners-up at the 2010 and 2014 editions, will be hoping to finally go one step further in Poland and claim Nigeria’s first-ever FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup title.
