FIFA Ranking: Nigeria drop as Brazil pull away from the pack

The Super Eagles of Nigeria dropped one step to 32 in the latest and final FIFA ranking released Thursday before the World Cup.

The Nigerian senior national team’s 2-1 loss to Algeria in an international friendly last week is one of the 119 friendlies as well as 53 UEFA Nations League matches FIFA took into consideration for the ranking

The Super Eagles having been dropping in ranking since they were ranked 30th best at the end of March. The team dropped to 31 in June and retained that status in August before the latest drop to 32.

In Africa, Nigeria maintained the fourth ranked status she attained after dropping from third in March to fourth in June.

Senegal remain the top ranked African nation, a position the Teranga Lions have maintained since they supplanted Tunisia in the World ranking in November 2018.

Meanhwile, Brazil will embark on their bid to win a sixth world title as Ranking leaders after beating Ghana and Tunisia in their two friendlies last week.

The Brazilians widened the gap between themselves and their nearest challengers, Belgium who lost to Netherlandsin the Nations League with Argentina completing the podium.
