Finidi, Osimhen, Iwobi, Aina, Enyimba win at Nigeria Pitch Awards
Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George was named coach of the year at the Nigeria Pitch Awards Saturday night in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.
Finidi bagged the award after leading Enyimba of Aba to their ninth Nigerian league title last season. He finished above Remo Stars’ Daniel Ogunmodede and Super Falcons coach, Randy Waldrum.
Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen was voted player of the year (King of the pitch) ahead of Bayer Leverkusen striker, Victor Boniface and Enyimba forward, Emeka Obioma. The 25 year old was also named striker of the year.
Nothingham Forest’s Ola Aina was named defender of the year while Alex Iwobi was named ahead of Wilfred Ndidi as the midfielder of the year. Ojo Olorunleke of Enyimba won the goalkeeper of the year award.
Rasheedat Ajibade of Atlético de Madrid Femenino of Spain was named the Queen of the pitch ahead of Chiamaka Nandozie and Asisat Oshoala while Enyimba of Aba won the team of the year award ahead of Super Falcons and Remo Stars.
Lagos state was adjudged as the state with the best grassroots football development programme with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu named as the football friendly Governor of the year.
Godswill Akpabio Int’l Stadium won the best stadium award while former Complete Sports reporter, Johnny Edward was named as the football journalist of the year.
