Fleetwood Stun Arsenal To Reach Carabao Cup Quarter-Finals
League Two Underdogs Dump Out Premier League Champions 5-3 On Penalties After 1-1 Draw

Fleetwood Town produced one of the biggest shocks in Carabao Cup history on Tuesday night, defeating Premier League champions Arsenal 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Highbury Stadium to reach the quarter-finals for the first time.
The League Two side, sitting 18th in the fourth tier, held their nerve in the shootout to eliminate Mikel Arteta’s team, who had been unable to turn their dominance into victory during normal time.
Arsenal’s night became even more difficult when 16-year-old Max Dowman was sent off in the 85th minute after lashing out at a Fleetwood defender during a confrontation.
Fleetwood had taken a shock lead through A. Loupalo-Bi in the 21st minute, leaving the visitors with work to do against determined opponents who defended resolutely.
Arsenal eventually drew level five minutes after the restart, with Viktor Gyökeres scoring in the 50th minute to restore parity and seemingly put the Premier League side back on course.
However, Fleetwood refused to buckle, keeping Arsenal at bay and forcing the tie into a penalty shootout after the sides could not find a winner.
The hosts were clinical from the spot, with Coughlan, Neal, Davies, Cannon and Haughey converting their attempts. Arsenal scored through Martin Ødegaard, Kai Havertz and Gyökeres, but Bruno Guimarães saw his effort saved by Jay Lynch.
Haughey then converted the decisive penalty to spark jubilant celebrations, with Fleetwood supporters invading the pitch to mark a historic victory.
The result sends Fleetwood into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals for the first time, while Arsenal are left to reflect on a costly cup exit against opponents from four divisions below them.
