Four Serie A Records Osimhen Can Either Match Or Break This Season

Nigerian seeking for his fifth goal involvement in four games against Atalanta

Victor Osimhen will be hoping to resume goalscoring duty when his Napoli side face Atalanta Saturday in a Serie A fixture.

The Nigerian’s eight-game scoring streak was ended last weekend by Lazio who inflicted on Napoli their first home loss at the Diego Amando Maradona stadium sine April 2022.

The 24 year old now has the opportunity to starting another streak against a side he has scored twice and bagged two assists against in three Serie A games.

If he manages to score on Saturday, the former Lille of France player will extend his stay at the top of the top scorer’s chart in the league.

Osimhen tops the chart with 19 goals in 21 games, five ahead of Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez who missed a penalty in his side’s 2-1 loss at Spezia on Friday night.

The top scorer award for the season is just one of three Serie A feats Osimhen can still accomplish this season.

Th Nigerian has scored 19 times in 21 games in the competition so far this and needs just two more to become the top scoring African in a single Serie A season.

He will achieve this at the expense of his Nigerian compatriot, Simy Nwankwo who scored 20 goals in the 2020/21 season for Crotone.

Osimhen is also in line to match or equal the single season goal record of 36 held by Ciro Immobile and former Napoli foward, Gonzalo Higuain.

If Napoli wins the Scudetto and Osimhen ends as the top scorer, he will become the seventh player after Michel Platini, Macko Van Basten, Gianlucca Vialli, Andriy Shevchenko, David Trezequet and Aldo Serena to achieve the unique combination.

Osimhen is just three goals away from becoming the joint top-scoring African in Serie A history with Liberia’s George Weah. The Super Eagle has scored 43 goals in 72 Serie A games for Napoli so far since he joined from Ligue1 side, Lille in September 2020.
