Future Eagles Finish FIFA U15 World Cup Group Stage Unbeaten

Nigeria’s U15 boys, the Future Eagles, finished the group stage of the inaugural FIFA U15 World Cup and Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan, unbeaten after recording a 2-1 victory over Cyprus and a 1-1 draw with Pakistan on Monday.

The Future Eagles secured victory against Cyprus in the morning, with Wisdom Oche opening the scoring before captain Timothy Ogar Ijachi netted the winner.

Ijachi’s contribution was particularly significant, as the captain had recovered from a knock sustained during Nigeria’s 3-3 draw with The Gambia on Sunday.

The Nigerian skipper continued his scoring form in the afternoon encounter against Pakistan, finding the net in the 25th minute to earn his team a 1-1 draw.

Pakistan had taken the lead one minute into the second half, but Ijachi’s equaliser ensured Nigeria maintained their unbeaten record in the group stage.

With FIFA adopting a no-elimination format for the inaugural competition, the Future Eagles will now await confirmation of the next tier in which they will compete as they continue their pursuit of honours in Baku.
