Genk Director: We could no longer stop Onuachu from making his EPL dream come true.

Genk’s head of football Dimitri de Conde says the club could not stop Nigeria international Paul Onuachu from fulfiling his dream of playing in the Premier League.

The 28 year old sealed his dream move to the Premier League on transfer deadline day following his £18million move to Southampton on deadline day.

Onuachu leaves Genk as the club’s top goalscorer this season and as the top scorer in the Belgian Pro League with 17 goals in 22 games already this season, with 16 coming in the league where Genk sit top of the table on 59 points.

Speaking to Genk’s club website, Conde said: “[Onuachu] reiterated that dream (to play in the Premier League) during a long conversation. We could no longer stop him from making his dream come true.

Conde’s sentiment was shared by manager Wouter Vrancken who admitted on Tuesday that it would be a big loss for the club to lose their main striker in January.

On Wednesday evening, Genk drew their first match without Onuachu 1-1 against their host Eupen at the Kehrwegstadion.
