George Ojemen Wins MTN Prestige Golf Finale in Lagos
George Ojemen, Controller at Northwest Star Alliance Limited, emerged champion at the MTN Prestige Golf Classic grand finale held at the Golf Section of Ikoyi Club 1938, Lagos.
Ojemen secured first place ahead of Bolanle Iyamu and Seye Ogunsina, capping off the exclusive tournament designed to reward premium customers and promote local sports development.
Speaking on the essence of the game, Afolabi Balogun, Golf Captain of Ikoyi Club 1938, emphasized golf’s role in fostering corporate ties and keeping executives active while connecting with peers.
The multi-city format, spanning Rivers State and Lagos, continues to promote the sport nationwide, testing the skills of Nigeria’s top amateur players.
At the awards ceremony, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Marketing Officer, Onyinye Ikenna-Emeka, praised the golfers’ sportsmanship and highlighted the tournament’s growth since its inaugural edition in 2025, which saw Solomon Nwaigwe crowned champion and rewarded with a trip to New York.
Reflecting on the 2026 tour, Onyinye said: ‘Beyond connectivity at MTN Nigeria, we are committed to ensuring consistent development and progress of sports in Nigeria. And golf is one of such sports.’
Regional champions, including Port Harcourt leg winner Ochade Ajabor, will represent Nigeria at the prestigious 154th British Open at Royal Birkdale in July.
The finale also drew notable figures such as Tobechukwu Okigbo, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer; His Excellency Benedict Adegboyega Alabi, former Deputy Governor of Osun State; and Michael Ikpoki, former CEO of MTN Ghana and Nigeria. Okigbo reflected on his initiation into golf, describing his first tee shot as a test of total focus.
Lady Captain Annie Eimiakhena, who leads a multi-generational group of female golfers, noted the tournament’s unique structure: ‘It sharpens competitive skills while fostering entrepreneurial growth. It also allows you to network, meet people, and even sell yourself because I run a business.’
