Ghana Set To Host West Africa’s First Beach-To-Beach Marathon

Ghana is set to make road-running history on October 25 when the Accra International Marathon (AIM) stages what organisers describe as West Africa’s first true Beach-to-Beach Marathon.
The 2026 edition will feature a 42km point-to-point coastal route from Prampram, through Tema and several coastal communities, before finishing at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra.
The marathon, tagged ‘Beach-to-Beach, Accra-Tema’, will take runners along the Accra-Tema Beach Road, with views of the Gulf of Guinea providing the backdrop for the race.
The 42km marathon will start at 5:30am near the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre in Teshie, while the 21km half-marathon begins at 6:30am near GHAPOHA in Tema.
The 10km race starts at 7:00am near Nungua Methodist School, with the 5km event getting underway at 7:30am from Teshie First Junction. All four races will finish at Labadi Beach Hotel.
Organisers say runners will have access to water stations every 2-3km along the courses. Fresh coconuts and other refreshments will also be available, while finishers will have access to free physiotherapy massages.
The marathon is being held under the theme ‘AIMing to Care’, with participants encouraged to use their involvement to raise funds for a local charity of their choice.
Organisers believe the concept is unprecedented in West Africa, where no other country in the sub-region has staged a dedicated beach-town-to-beach-resort marathon of similar scale.
The event draws inspiration from the region’s growing road-running culture while using Ghana’s coastline to create a distinctive race experience.
Unlike conventional city marathons that begin and end in the same location, AIM’s point-to-point format takes runners across a long stretch of Ghana’s coastal corridor before the finish at Labadi.
The Accra International Marathon was established in 2007 and has grown into one of Ghana’s established road-running events.
Labadi Beach Hotel is the Presenting Sponsor for the 2026 edition, while Leasafric Ghana Plc is the Transportation Sponsor. The Ghana Police Service is also supporting the event, alongside other partners.
