Gift Orban nets brace to take goals haul to nine in seven games

Nigerian is top scorer in Europe since February 11

Gift Orban resumed normal service after the international break to lead KAA Gent to a 5-0 away win the Stade du Pairay, home ground of their host, RFC Seraing.

The Nigerian put the vistors ahead on 18 minutes and doubled the advantage seven minutes into the second half. He took full advantage of a misplaced pass by RFC Seraing to slot home before Hugo Cuypers, the Belgian Pro League top scorer with 18 goals netted the third.

The goals were the Nigerians eighth and ninth of the game in seven games since he made his debut for the club in February after his switch from a Norwegian second division club.

With the goals, the 20 year old has climbed up to 10th in the top scorer’s race, nine goals adrift of the top scorer.

Orban further cemented his place in Europe as the player with the best goal involvements per game in Europe’s top 10 leagues

He is averaging 1.33 goal involvement per game this Jupiler Pro League season (nine goals and two assists in seven league matches and this is the highest average of all players in the top 10 European leagues, ahead of Erling Haaland ( 1.27) who missed Man City’s 4-1 defeat of Liverpool also on Saturday.

Since making his Jupiler Pro League debut on 11 February 2023, the Nigerian has also scored more goals than any other player in the Top 10 European leagues (9).
