Gold Cup 2026: Grassrunners Shock Stormers as Ikorodu City, Inter Lagos, Sunshine Stars Record Wins

Ikorodu City, Inter Lagos and Sunshine Stars recorded impressive victories on MatchDay 2 of the 14th edition of the Ogunjobi Gold Cup Preseason Tournament, while Grassrunners FC stunned Stormers SC to maintain a perfect start to the competition.
Inter Lagos set the tone for the day with a 2-0 victory over Abakaliki FC at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta.
After a goalless first half in which both sides struggled to create clear-cut opportunities, Inter Lagos took control after the break, with Monday Emmanuel scoring in the 51st and 72nd minutes to secure all three points.
Ikorodu City also bounced back strongly from their opening-day derby draw against Inter Lagos, defeating Dokkal Khairu FC 3-0.
Moses Ali opened the scoring after 20 minutes before Shola Bada doubled the advantage in the 73rd minute. Ikechukwu Junior completed the scoring six minutes from full time to seal a convincing victory for the Oga Boys.
Grassrunners FC produced one of the biggest surprises of the day, defeating Stormers SC 1-0 to move top of the table with six points from two matches.
Ogunrombi Boris scored the decisive goal in the 39th minute with a tap-in, handing the Nationwide League One side a second consecutive victory.
Stormers and Doma United both suffered their second defeats of the tournament and remain without a point.
Doma United were punished for failing to convert their opportunities as Abass Yakubu scored from the penalty spot in the 71st minute before Gabriel Adepoju added a second six minutes later.
MatchDay 3 of the Gold Cup continues on Saturday with another round of fixtures as teams battle for points and momentum ahead of the decisive stages of the preseason tournament.
