Golden Eaglets Crash Out Of WAFU-B U17 Championship

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets have crashed out of the WAFU-B U17 Championship in Burkina Faso after drawing 1-1 with Côte d’Ivoire in their final Group B match on Saturday.
The Eaglets needed a victory against the Ivorians to keep their hopes of progressing alive following their 1-2 defeat to Niger Republic on Wednesday. However, the draw proved insufficient to prevent Nigeria’s group-stage elimination.
Côte d’Ivoire took the lead in the 16th minute when Alex Fousseni capitalised on a counterattack to put the Baby Elephants ahead.
Nigeria responded with sustained attacking pressure, launching wave after wave of attacks in search of an equaliser. However, the Eaglets struggled to convert their chances and appeared set for another disappointing result.
Abiodun John eventually restored parity with just two minutes of regulation time remaining, but his late strike came too late to change Nigeria’s fate in the competition.
The 1-1 draw meant the Golden Eaglets exited the tournament at the group stage, ending their campaign in Burkina Faso.
