Golden Eaglets Lose To Niger In WAFU-B U-17 Championship Opener

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets began their 2026 WAFU-B U-17 Championship campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Niger Republic in Ouagadougou on Wednesday.
The five-time world champions fell behind in the 20th minute when Abdoul Razaq Zada put Niger ahead.
The Eaglets sought an equaliser before the break, with Columbus Igboenyobe testing the Niger goalkeeper, who comfortably saved his effort.
Coach Eboboritse Uwejamomere made changes in an attempt to turn the game around, but Niger struck again in the 87th minute to strengthen their grip on the contest.
Fasiu Mubarak pulled a goal back for Nigeria in the fifth minute of stoppage time, but the late effort came too late to prevent defeat.
The Eaglets must now regroup ahead of Friday’s Group B clash against Ivory Coast as they seek their first points of the tournament.
