Grassrunners FC have been crowned champions of the 14th edition of the Ogunjobi Gold Cup after a convincing 3-0 victory over Abakaliki FC in the final.

After a goalless first half, Grassrunners took the lead just two minutes after the restart when Hamzat Sheriff inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.

Timileyin Adelabu doubled their advantage in the 70th minute before Lasisi Musa sealed the victory with a stunning stoppage-time strike.

Abakaliki FC had chances to get back into the contest, but Grassrunners goalkeeper Gideon Nwanzi produced two impressive saves in quick succession in the 60th minute to preserve his side’s lead.

The 10-day pre-season tournament ended in style as Grassrunners lifted their first official Ogunjobi Gold Cup trophy.
