Haaland and Salah Among UK’s Top 100 Taxpayers, Paying £31m Combined

Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah have been named among the UK’s top 100 taxpayers in the Sunday Times Tax List 2026, with the Premier League stars contributing tens of millions to the Treasury each year.

Haaland ranks 72nd with £16.9m in tax payments, while Salah sits at 81st with £14.5m.

Manchester City’s prolific striker Erling Haaland, who earns more than £500,000 per week plus £10m annually in bonuses, has been revealed as the 72nd biggest taxpayer in Britain.

His total tax bill is estimated at £16.9m per year. Haaland, who resides in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, is one of several footballers from the region to feature on the list.

The Sunday Times noted that Haaland’s inclusion reflects the extraordinary salaries commanded by elite footballers in England’s top flight.

Robert Watts, the journalist who compiles the list, commented: ‘Footballers like Haaland are not just scoring goals for their clubs, they are also scoring for the Exchequer. Their tax contributions are among the most significant from the sporting world.’

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, earning around £400,000 per week plus £10m in bonuses, is ranked 81st with an annual tax payment of £14.5m.

Salah, who also lives in Cheshire, has become one of the Premier League’s most marketable stars, and his financial footprint is now reflected in the UK’s tax records.

The Sunday Times highlighted Salah’s rise from modest beginnings to global superstardom, noting that his tax payments are ‘a reminder of how football has become one of the UK’s most lucrative industries.’

The Sunday Times Tax List 2026 revealed that the UK’s top 100 taxpayers collectively contributed £5.758bn, up from £4.985bn the previous year.
