Handball: COAS Shooters wins 2024 National Division 1 League, promoted to 2025 Ardova Handball Premier League

COAS Shooters have been crowned champions of the 2024 National Division 1 Handball League in the men’s category.
COAS Shooters beat Osun United 21 to 16 goals in the final of the men’s category played at the indoor sports hall of Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City on Friday.
Relegated about three years ago, the COAS Shooters have made steady progress especially after team Coordinator Brigadier General AR Bello strengthened the team and has effectively being monitoring there training.
An elated Brigadier General Bello revealed that it took the special intervention of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja through timely logistics support for the team to get the desired results.
Bello stated that anything short of the trophy would have not been accepted due to the commitment of the Nigeria Army in supporting the team.
He said, ‘I want to thank God Almighty for using the Coaches as a vessel to handle the COAS Shooters. Winning the Division 1 and most importantly qualifying for next season’s Ardova Handball Premier League is a big deal.
‘Special thanks to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja for his support to the team.’
He stated that the Army has demonstrated the ability to excel in sporting activities due to its proper planning and execution of programs.
He said, ‘Commendation must be given to the players and coaches for bringing honour to the Nigerian Army. The Army will continue to provide an enabling environment for athletes to thrive’.
