Harry Redknapp: ‘Iheanacho’s my star man of Matchweek 23’

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has named Kelechi Iheanacho as his star player after the conclusion of Matchweek 23 on Monday night.

The 26 year old tops the list of three Leicester City players Redknapp named in his Premier League team of the week following the 4-1 win over Spurs at the King Power Stadium.

Brendan Rodgers’ team scored four goals for the second week in a row as they recorded back to back Premier League wins following a 4-2 victory over Aston Villa. Goals from Papy Mendy, James Maddison, Kelechi Iheanacho and Harvey Barnes saw City record a comfortable win over Tottenham after Rodrigo Bentancur’s opener in the first half.

The win eases relegation worries for City and moves them above local rivals Nottingham Forest and into 13th place in the table. Ahead of the game between Liverpool and Everton, City are six points clear of the bottom three positions.

“Kelechi Iheanacho has been in the starting line-up in the last couple of weeks and he’s certainly delivered for his manager. He got a goal and assist at the weekend, and he took his goal well.

“He’s always been a good, natural finisher and if he keep this form up, he’ll remain in the side. Leicester were brilliant at the weekend, and he was a big reason why. He’s got to be my star man this weekend!,’ Redknapp wrote.

The Nigerian also made Garth Crooks, the former Spurs and Man United player’s team of the week.

Iheanacho was named the official man of the match by the Premier League and it was the second consecutive week the Nigerian would be so honoured after he was named the best player when Leicester City defeated Aston Villa 4-2 at the Villa Park.
