Masai Russell began her Diamond League campaign in Shanghai/Keqiao with a commanding performance, storming to victory in the women’s 100m hurdles with a meeting record of 12.25 seconds.

The reigning Olympic champion, representing the USA, underlined her status as one of the sport’s leading hurdlers.

Russell’s time places her second on the all-time list at 12.17, just behind world record holder Tobi Amusan’s 12.12.

Speaking after the race, Russell emphasised her winning mentality: ‘I was not coming here to place second or third.
