Iheanacho battles Rashford, four others for EPL player of the month award

Leicester City forward, Kelechi Iheanacho is among six players that have been shortlisted for the February Premier League Player of the Month award.

The Nigerian who won the award in March 2021 has been nominated for the third time since 2021 after his five goal involvements in the month under review.

The 26 year old’s five goal involvements came in a devastating two-match spell. He got a goal and two assists in a 4-2 win at Aston Villa and followed that up with a goal and an assist in Leicester City’s impressive 4-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Manchester City player is however up against five others for the award and they are led by Manchester United forward, Marcus Rashford who is looking for his third Player of the Month award this season following his Premier League-high five goals in the month, scoring in every appearance he made.

Others are former Arsenal goalie, Bernd Leno who was beaten only once in the entire month in goal for Fulham, keeping three clean sheets in four matches.

Tottenham wing-back, Emerson Royal , Fulham striker Manor Solomon and Aston Villa striker, Ollie Watkins complete the list of the nominees.

Iheanacho remians the last of four Nigerians that have won the award. Others are are Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, Peter Odemwingie (three times) and Odion Ighalo.
