Iheanacho Breaks 64-Year-Old Turkish Football Record With 10th Consecutive Scoring Game

Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has made Turkish football history after becoming the first player to score in 10 consecutive matches, breaking a record jointly held by Galatasaray legend Metin Oktay and Saffet Sancaklı.

The Nigerian achieved the feat on Thursday as Bursaspor defeated Muğlaspor 3-0 away in their 10th-week fixture in Turkey’s third-tier league.

Iheanacho delivered an outstanding performance, scoring twice and providing an assist to inspire Bursaspor to victory.

The former Leicester City and Sevilla forward surpassed the previous record of nine consecutive scoring matches, first set by Oktay with Galatasaray during the 1962/63 season and later matched by Sancaklı with Kocaelispor in 1995/96.

The 29-year-old’s remarkable scoring run has also established him as the leading scorer in the league, with 14 goals. His closest challenger, Kayserispor’s Taulant Seferi, has scored nine.

Following his record-breaking performance against Muğlaspor, Iheanacho shared a post in Turkish, using the phrase ‘Kelechi brother’, which attracted considerable attention from supporters.

The former Super Eagles forward’s prolific form has made him a central figure in Bursaspor’s campaign as he continues to rewrite the league’s scoring records.
