Iheanacho confident Foxes can retain FA Cup this season

 

Kelechi Iheanacho is confident that Leicester City can retain the FA Cup this season.

The Foxes striker has recently returned from international duty after Nigeria were knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Leicester are in fourth round action in the FA Cup on Sunday when they face East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest.

They began the defence of their title last month with a comfortable 4-1 win over fellow Premier League side Watford.

And now Iheanacho is confident that they can retain the FA Cup this season

“Obviously the last (season) was brilliant so hopefully we’ll focus this time around and repeat the same. I think we’re ready so we need to concentrate and focus and go all the way.

“We know what we want and everyone knows what we’re chasing so the FA Cup is something we really want to win again.

“With a great squad we have here I think we can do it again.

“There’s hunger and desire in the team, we love each other and we work for each other so we will do that again and hopefully we will achieve our goals,” he told LCFC TV ahead of the Foxes trip to the City Ground.

Despite the belief that they can repeat last seasons victory, the Nigerian striker is wary of the threat that Nottingham Forest will pose this weekend.

The Championship side have had a strong season since Steve Cooper took charge of the Reds from previous boss Chris Hughton when Forest were bottom of the Championship table in September.

Forest beat 14-time winners Arsenal in the previous round and are pushing for a spot in the Championship play-offs.

He added: “It will be a big one against a rival.

“In the stands, there will be banter between the fans but as players, we need to focus on the game and it will be tough on the pitch but hopefully we’re ready.”

The 25 year old scored four times in six appearances for the Foxes last season in the competition including a brace and assist in the 3-1 defeat of Manchester United in the quarterfinal game at the King Power stadium.

Iheanacho also scored Leicester City’s lone goal against Southampton that secured a place in the final at Wembley where they defeated Chelsea 1-0 to lift the trophy.
