Iheanacho nets 30th Premier League goal for Leicester City

Moves above Awoniyi as Nigeria's top scorer, closes on Ameobi

Kelechi Iheanacho scored for the second consecutive Premier League game for the second time in 2023 to help Leicester City’s successful fightback against visiting Wolves Saturday evening at the King Power stadium.

The goal was the Nigerian’s fourth in 2023 and fifth of the 2022/23 season as the Foxes came from a goal back to beat Wolves 2-1, their first win in over two months and move to out of the relegation zone.

The 26 year old has now scored 30 Premier League goals for Leicester City in 147 Premier League appearances since he switched Manchester City for the King Power stadium outfit.

It is also his 42nd goal in the competition in 215 games since he made his debut in August 2015.

Overall, it is his 55th goal in 203 appearances for the Foxes across all competitions.

Iheanacho has also made Wolves the 22nd team he has scored against in the competition and it came on his sixth attempt against the club.

The Nigerian has now moved above Nothingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi as the top scoring Nigerian in the Premier League so far this season and just a goal shy of Shola Ameobi who is the fourth Nigerian top scorer in history of the competition.

If he ends up as Nigeria’s top scorer this season, it would be his fifth in the last eight seasons with his 12 in 25 games in 202/21 season his highest.
