Iheanacho Rejects Turkey and Qatar Offers as Celtic Contract Talks Progress

Nigeria international Kelechi Iheanacho has reportedly turned down transfer offers from Turkey and Qatar as he moves closer to extending his stay with Scottish champions Celtic.

The 29-year-old striker had been linked with newly promoted Turkish side Bursaspor, who are in the market for an experienced goalscorer ahead of the new season.

Reports in Turkey claimed Iheanacho was among the club’s transfer targets, but a move now appears unlikely.

According to Greek journalist George Tsarouchas, Iheanacho has rejected approaches from clubs in both Turkey and Qatar and is instead prioritising negotiations with Celtic over a new contract.

The report adds that discussions between the Nigerian forward and the Scottish giants are progressing well, with both parties working towards a new two-year agreement.

Celtic manager Martin O’Neill recently confirmed that talks with Iheanacho had gathered momentum, further fuelling expectations that the striker will remain at Celtic beyond the current campaign.

Iheanacho enjoyed an encouraging season with the Hoops and is keen to continue his career in Glasgow despite attracting interest from abroad.

If a new deal is finalised, it would end speculation surrounding the Super Eagles forward’s future and provide Celtic with an experienced attacking option as they prepare for another campaign in domestic and European competitions.

For now, a return to Celtic appears to be the most likely outcome, with Iheanacho choosing continuity over lucrative offers from Turkey and Qatar.
