Iheanacho Subbed On For The 102nd Time In Foxes Crash At Stamford Bridge
Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho was subbed on for the third consecutive game on Saturday when his club went, saw but were conquered at Stamford Bridge by Chelsea in a Premier League matchweek four fixture.
The Nigerian, 26, was subbed on for Boubakary Soumare on 55 minutes but could not stop 10-man Chelsea from winning the game 2-1 courtesy of Raheem Sterling’s double in the second half of the game.
Iheanacho has now been subbed on in a Premier League game for the 102nd time in 171 appearances for both Manchester City and Leicester City.
In his first season in the Premier League, the Nigerian was subbed on 19 times in 26 appearances albeit he still managed to score eight goals for Manchester City.
The following season was not better as he started only five of 20 league games which means he was subbed on 15 times. He scored four goals.
The former Golden Eaglets FIFA U17 World Cup star switched from the Etihad stadium to the King Power stadium to join Leicester City thereafter but his fortunes did not improve as he started only seven of the 21 games he featured in, subbed on in 14.
The Nigerian’s fortune slightly improved in the 2018/2019 season when he started nine out of the 30 games he played while his best year in terms of starts and even goals was in the lockdown season (2019/20) when he made 16 starts in 25 games and scored 12 times, the first time he will at least hit the 10 goal mark in a season.
With three substitute appearances in the three games he has featured in so far this term, it does not look likely Iheanacho will get gaffer, Brendan Rodgers’ nod to start many games this season.
