Iheanacho Uncertain Over Celtic Future Despite Cup Final Heroics

Kelechi Iheanacho has admitted he remains unsure whether he will stay at Celtic next season, despite playing a pivotal role in the club’s domestic double triumph.

The Nigerian striker came off the bench in the Scottish Cup Final against Dunfermline at Hampden Park and immediately changed the game’s momentum.

His physical presence gave Martin O’Neill’s side greater control just as Neil Lennon’s men were beginning to build pressure after the restart.

Iheanacho thought he had scored within minutes of his introduction when Hyun-jun Yang squared across goal, only for VAR to rule the move offside.

He eventually found the net with a composed finish in the 3-0 victory, wriggling past two defenders before calmly slotting beyond Aston Oxborough to effectively seal the win.

Reflecting on the season, Iheanacho described it as ‘crazy’ and admitted his future remains unresolved.

‘We are happy now. It’s a double trophy for us. It’s time to celebrate… I don’t know. I don’t know for now, but we’ll wait and see,’ he told BBC Sport Scotland.

Celtic hold the option to extend his contract by another year, but uncertainty has lingered throughout the campaign due to injuries and inconsistent availability.

Nevertheless, Iheanacho’s impact has been undeniable, with his ability to hold the ball and deliver crucial goals proving vital during the title run-in.
