‘Incredible Goalscoring Prowess’: Davies Hails Omewa Arrival at Nottingham Forest

Head coach Carly Davies has hailed the arrival of Nigeria international Joy Omewa, describing her as a dynamic forward with ‘incredible goalscoring prowess’ following her move to Nottingham Forest.

In quotes circulated to the media, Davies said: ‘We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Joy Omewa to Nottingham Forest. Joy’s incredible goalscoring prowess speaks for itself.

‘She’s a dynamic forward with a natural instinct in front of goal, and her ability to find the net consistently at both club and international level makes her a fantastic addition to our squad. Joy is exactly the type of player who can help us push forward and achieve our ambitions.’

Omewa, 23, joins Forest from Danish side Fortuna Hjørring on a permanent deal until the end of the season.

She scored more than 50 goals in five years with the club, helping them to two Danish Women’s Cup triumphs and the Kvindeligaen title in 2024/25, a season in which she was named Player of the Year.

The forward began her career with Confluence Queens in Nigeria before moving to Boldklubben af 1893 (B.93) in 2021, where she netted three times in nine appearances. She then switched to Fortuna Hjørring later that year, establishing herself as one of the league’s most prolific strikers.

Internationally, Omewa earned her first senior cap for Nigeria last year, having previously represented the country at U-17 and U-20 levels.

Speaking after signing, Omewa expressed her excitement about the move: ‘I am delighted to sign for Nottingham Forest. It’s an ambitious club and I’m excited to be a part of this team. I can’t wait to get started and I think I can add a lot to an already talented group at Forest.’

Forest currently sit sixth in WSL2, level on points with Newcastle United. They face two crucial fixtures in early February, away to second-placed Birmingham City on February 1, before hosting leaders Charlton Athletic on February 8, as they push for promotion.
