Incredible Messi smashes two MLS records with six goal-contributions in Miami win

On a weekend Cristiano Ronaldo netted an hat-trick for his club in Saudi Arabia, Inter Miami star, Lionel Messi was also the star of the weekend in USA after he broke two MLS record in his club’s 6-1 win over the New York Red Bulls.

Messi set up five goals, all in the second half, after Inter Miami headed into the locker room trailing 1-0 at halftime. In addition to his five assists, Messi also had a goal of his own, his 10th of the season.

The Argentine’s six goal contributions for Inter Miami Sunday morning (in Nigeria) set a record for the most in a single game in MLS history.

His five assists were also the most by a player in a game in MLS history.

Three of Messi’s five assists were provided to Luis Suarez and the other two went to newcomer Matias Rojas.

Messi now leads the league in both goals and assists as he sets his sights on more MLS records this campaign. He now has 10 goals and 12 assists despite playing under 700 MLS minutes.
