‘It’s a good first game for us, we are taking them as they come,’ says Flamingos coach, Olowookere after his girls spanked New Zealand 4-1

Flamingos head coach, Bankole Olowookere says he and his girls have shifted their focus to their next group game against Ecuador on Saturday in the ongoing FIFA Women’s U17 World Cup in the Dominican Republic.

The Nigerians walloped New Zealand 4-1 in their opening group game with three goals in the first 28 minutes of the game courtesy Shakirat Moshood (2), Khadijat Adegoke (13), Farihat Abdulwahab (28) putting the Flamingos in total control.

Flamingos captain, Taiwo Afolabi, who bossed the midfield all day, scored the fourth goal early in the second stanza by rising high to spin home a header.

‘It’s a good first game for us. We are taking them as they come, so a good game for us, scoring four goals and only conceding one, so not bad for our first game,’ said Nigeria head coach Olowookere.

New Zealand were also on the scoresheet through a Hannah Saxon effort and head coach, Alana Gunn expressed delight that her team scored a goal.

‘A goal is massive for us. It’s an awesome achievement from the team and especially for Hannah, she’ll remember that type of moment forever,’ said Gunn.
