It’s Atalanta Vs Leverkusen final!: Lookman strikes to set up Europa League final with Boniface and Tella
Ademola Lookman scored one and set up another as his Serie A club, Atalanta mauled Marseille of France 3-0 to qualify for their first ever European Cup and set up a Europa League final with Vicor Boniface and Nathan Tella’s Bayer Leverkusen.
Lookman opened scoring on 30 minutes for the Italians at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo to give the host a 1-0 lead in the first half.
The Nigerian set up Matteo Ruggeri for the second goal on 52 minutes to put Atalanta 2-0 and 3-1 on aggregate after drawing 1-1 in the first leg in Marseille last week
El Bilal Toure netted the third goal in second half added time to set up the final with the Germans who left it very late to secure a 2-2 draw against visiting AS Roma of Italy at the BayArena.
The draw not only ensured Leverkusen are through to the final, it also preserved their unbeaten run to the season.
Xabi Alonso’s team did what they’ve been doing all term: sticking to their task until the very last second.
Roma led by two Leandro Paredes penalties until the tie entered Leverkusen time.
A visiting own goal in the 83rd minute put the hosts back in front in the tie and set up a grandstand finale, in which Josip Stanišić levelled with the last kick of the second leg.
Leverkusen have now gone 49th game unbeaten across all competitions and will face Atalanta at the Aviva Stadium in the Europa League final on May 22nd.
