It’s Official: Guardiola to Step Down After Historic Decade at Manchester City
Pep Ends Ten-Year Reign at Etihad with 20 Major Trophies
Manchester City has confirmed that Pep Guardiola will step down as manager this summer, bringing to a close an extraordinary decade in charge that has transformed the club’s history.
Guardiola, who joined City in July 2016, departs as the most successful manager in the club’s history, having won 20 major trophies during his tenure.
His achievements include multiple Premier League titles, domestic cups, and the long-awaited UEFA Champions League triumph, cementing his legacy as one of football’s greatest coaches.
Although stepping down from the dugout, Guardiola will continue his association with the City Football Group by taking up a role as Global Ambassador.
In this capacity, he will provide technical advice, contribute to projects across the group’s clubs, and support collaborations worldwide.
Reflecting on his time in Manchester, Guardiola spoke with emotion about the city, the club, and its people: ‘Deep inside, I know it’s my time. Nothing is eternal, but eternal will be the feeling, the people, the memories, the love I have for Manchester City. What we have done, we have done it for all of you. And you have been just exceptional.’
He also paid tribute to the resilience of Manchester, recalling moments of triumph and tragedy, including the city’s response to the Manchester Arena attack and his own personal loss during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Guardiola thanked fans, staff, players, and his family for their unwavering support, concluding: ‘Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for trusting me. Thank you for pushing me. Thank you for loving me. This is my place. It has been so fun. Love you all.’
