Itshekiri, Adeshina win at Pre-Paris 2024 Olympics event in Luxembourg, Adegoke second
Two-time Nigeria 100m king, Ushoritse Itshekiri and three-time high jump queen, Temitope Adeshina triumphed in their pre-Paris 2024 Olympics event Sunday at the CAS Meeting International 2024, a World Athletics Continental Tour – Challenger meeting held in Luxembourg.
Itshekiri and Adeshina are in Nigeria’s 35-man list for the Paris 2024 Olympics with the former only registered to run in the 4x100m relay while the latter is making history as the second Nigerian woman high jumper to compete at the Olympics.
Itshekiri, 26, won his heat in 10.25 before storming home first in the final in 10.09, his first sub-10.10 seconds run since the start of June and sixth in all conditions.
Another Nigerian, Enoch Adegoke came in second in 10.16, his first sub-10.20 seconds run since May and second fastest time of the season. The 24 year old who made history as the first sprinter in 25 years to run in the final of the event at the Olympics is not making an immediate return to the Games.
In the women’s high jump, Adeshina, 25, also triumphed, clearing 1.87m on her second attempt and failing thrice at 1.91m.
