Iwobi dedicates goal Vs Man United to his uncle, JayJay Okocha

Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi has dedicated his first Premier League goal of the season to his uncle Austin Jayjay Okocha who watched him score against Manchester United at Goodison Park on Sunday evening.

The Nigerian’s first goal of the season – a superb curling strike from 25 yards – gave the Blues an early lead on the night, but the visitors hit back via Antony and Cristiano Ronaldo to snatch all three points.

The goal was also Iwobi’s first in 12 games across all competitions against the Red Devils.

‘I dedicate the goal to my uncle who came to watch me score,’ said the 26 year old who has taken his total Premier League goal tally to 16 in 192 games.

‘I saw him among the crowd and after the game he said he came to watch me score goals and I kind of dedicate it to him.’

Iwobi lamented the mistakes the team made that ensured their seven game unbeaten run came to an end right in front of their fans at Goodison Park.

‘The manner in which we conceeded the two goals was something we actually spoke about before the game, we know the threat they pose on counter attack,’ he said but insists the players will quickly dust themselves down, learn lessons and be ready to go again.

Everton’s next game is against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
