Iwobi eager to end three month goal drought

Nigeria forward Alex Iwobi will be aiming to kill two birds with one stone Tuesday evening when his side, Everton, with new gaffer, Frank Lampard visit St James’ Park to face Newcastle United in a crucial Premier League game.

The Nigerian will be hoping to make his first start under Lampard after playing a cameo role in the Toffees FA Cup drubbing of Bright at the weekend.

The 25 year old will also be seeking to score his first Premier League goal  since November last year when he netted in the Toffees’ 2-1 loss at the Molineux Stadium to Wolves.

The Super Eagle has now gone three months without a goal and if he scores, it will be his first in six Premier League games against Newcastle.

It will also be his first Premier League goal in an Everton shirt against an oppponent not named Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Iwobi joined Everton from Arsenal in August 2019 and has scored just thrice in the Premier League for the Toffees and each of the goals has come against Wolves in each of the three seasons he is spending at Goodison Park.

If he plays, it will be his 169th appearance in the competition since August 2015 when he made his debut with a cameo appearance in Arsenal’s 3-0 demolition of Swansea at the Liberty stadium.
