Iwobi: Eagles Have the Players to Win AFCON 2025

Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has declared his belief that Nigeria will lift the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy, three weeks before the tournament kicks off in Morocco.

The 29-year-old former Arsenal star who is now the most capped player in the current Super Eagles squad with 91 international appearances, has featured in three AFCON tournaments and is determined to turn past near misses into glory.

Nigeria fell short in the last edition in Ivory Coast and also missed out on a World Cup spot after a dramatic penalty shootout defeat to the Democratic Republic of Congo in the African final of the 2026 qualifiers.

Iwobi insists the team has the quality to deliver Nigeria’s fourth continental crown.

‘We were really close the last Afcon but the only way we can improve on the last Afcon is to win it,’ he told AySuga Channel.

‘We have the players to do it, we believe we can, we just have to prove it.’

The upcoming tournament promises fierce competition, with defending champions Ivory Coast, hosts Morocco, and Nigeria all tipped as favourites.

Yet Iwobi remains confident, framing his ambition as a declaration of intent.

‘I would like to speak it into existence, I like to manifest, I want to say Nigeria will win the Afcon,’ he said.
