Iwobi Extends Aston Villa Winless Run To 14 Games Despite ‘Goal’

Nigerian Moves Clear of Salah with 329th EPL Appearances, Makes 120th Fulham Outing

Alex Iwobi extended his winless run against Aston Villa to 14 matches on Saturday, despite playing a part in Fulham’s 1-1 draw with the Birmingham-based club at Villa Park.

The Nigerian midfielder has now drawn three and lost 11 of his 14 meetings with Villa, managed by Unai Emery, and is still searching for his first victory against the Villans.

Iwobi also remains without a goal against Villa, although he came agonisingly close to breaking that duck in Saturday’s encounter.

His 64th-minute corner was turned into the net by Villa goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, who failed to keep the ball out after initially parrying Iwobi’s delivery. The goal was officially credited as an own goal.

The draw means Iwobi is still seeking his first Premier League victory against both Aston Villa and Manchester City. He has now gone 17 league appearances without a win against City.

Saturday’s match was also a landmark occasion for the 29-year-old, who made his 120th appearance for Fulham since joining the club from Everton in September 2023.

Iwobi’s appearance took his Premier League career tally to 329, moving him above Mohamed Salah and into second place among African players with the most appearances in the competition’s history.

Former Arsenal and Manchester City defender Kolo Toure remains the record holder with 353 appearances, leaving Iwobi 24 short of the landmark.
