Iwobi leads Super Eagles stats list after 22 games in the Premier League

The English Premier League is just over the half way mark and the boys are gradually getting separated from the men. While Arsenal still top the log, Manchester City are just five points behind.
Interestingly, no Super Eagles players is in contention to become a Premier League champion five seasons after Victor Moses (2016/17) became the last ‘Nigerian’ to win the title with Chelsea.

Instead, it is at the bottom of the log Nigerian players are featuring prominently as the battle for relegation hots up. Southampton, Everton, Leicester City and Nothingham Forest are all involved in the battle for survival.

Goals
Taiwo Awoniyi tops the chart as his four goals for Nothingham Forest in his debut Premier League season is the most so far scored by a Nigerian in the competition, two ahead of the duo of Joe Aribo (Southampton) and Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester City). Through his goals, the former Union Berlin of Germany player was named the official man of the match after his goal gave Forest a 1-0 win over Liverpool in October.

Assists
Alex Iwobi is having an incredible Premier League season and the 26 year old has become the mainstay of Everton who are fighting to avoid the drop. Although he has scored just once so far this season, the 26 year old has provided five assists, two more than Kelechi Iheanacho.

Appearances
Alex Iwobi is the only one to have started and played all 21 games played in the league so far this season with Joe Aribo second with 18 appearances for Southampton and Taiwo Awoniyi who has featured 16 times due to an injury that has forced him out of Forest’s last three Premier League games.

Minutes Played
Expectedly, Alex Iwobi has played more minutes than any Super Eagles player so far this term after featuring in all of Everton’s 21 games in the competition. The 26 year old has featured for 1,873 minutes with Southampton’s Joe Aribo the other player to have played over a 1,000 minutes ( 1,085) in his debut season in the league.

Shots on target
Taiwo Awoniyi has had 19 shots so far this term from the 16 Premier League games he has featured in this season with eighth of them on target, same as Joe Aribo who has had eight shots on target from the 13 he has fired. Everton’s Alex Iwobi is third with five on target from 19 shots while Kelechi Iheanacho has had four on target from 14 shots.

Tackles
Alex Iwobi has pulled clear of the chasing crowd with 41 tackles made in 21 appearances with the nearest challenger, Joe Aribo 11 behind with 29 tackles while Nigeria’s best tackler in Premier League history, the now injury-prone Wilfred Ndidi is third, two behind Aribo.

Kelechi Iheanacho is the most subbed on Nigerian player in Premier League history and the Leicester City forward is also leading this term with 13 from 15 games. He is followed by Frank Onyeka who has been subbed on eight times in 12 games while the trio of Joe Aribo, Taiwo Awoniyi and Emanuel Dennis have been subbed on seven times in 18, 16 and 10 games respectively.

Premier League newcomer, Taiwo Awoniyi tops with nine subbed offs in 16 games. The 25 year old has however scored his four goals in four of the nine games he has been subbed off. Joe Aribo is second with eight in 18 games.
