Iwobi makes history as third Nigerian to make 200 Premier League starts

Alex Iwobi has made history as the third Nigerian player in Premier League history to start as many as 200 games.

The former Arsenal player started in Fulham’s 3-2 defeat at Manchester City on Saturday to become the third Nigerian to do so after Joseph Yobo who started 212 of the 228 appearances he made in the competition and Yakubu Aiyegbeni who stated 216 of the 252 games he featured in for different clubs.

Iwobi has started all seven matches for Fulham but, like his club, failed in his bid to stop his winless run against the Cityzens which dated back May 2016 when he featured for 59 minutes in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with the Manchester-based club at the Etihad.

Since then, Iwobi has drawn two more games, one more as an Arsenal player and the third one when he became an Everton player. He has lost the 13 others.

The game was however his 269th in the competition, 100 of which came as an Arsenal player, 123 as a Toffee and 37 as a Cottager.

Iwobi did not only make history as the third Nigerian with 200 starts in the competition, he also extended his record as the Nigerian with the most minutes (17,399) in Premier League history as well as an unwanted record of being the most subbed off Nigerian (110) in the history of the competition.
