Iwobi overtakes Mikel, becomes Nigerian with most minutes played in EPL history

Nigerian made to wait again for his century of wins in the competition

Alex Iwobi has become the Nigerian with the most minutes played in Premier League history after featuring for all 90 minutes in Fulham’s 1-0 loss to visiting
Newcastle at Craven Cottage on Saturday evening.

Iwobi needed to play for just 28 minutes to move above Chelsea legend, Mikel Obi who featured for 16,228 minutes in 249 appearances in the competition for
the west London side.

The 27 year old former Arsenal player however featured for all 90 minutes and has now played 16,291 minutes in the competition in 247 appearances since he
made his debut in October 2015.

Iwobi is also two games away from equalling the 249 appearances made by Mikel in the Premier League. With eight games left in the competition this term, the
former Everton midfielder will not only move above the former Chelsea star in the number appearances, but also Yakubu Aiyegbeni who is third in the Nigerian
all-time list with 252 appearances.

While Iwobi was able to set a new mark for the number of minutes played, he was unable to help Fulham return to winning ways and become in the process the
fifth Nigerian to secure at least a 100 win in the Premier League.

Iwobi could also not match Nwankwo Kanu’s assists record of 29. The Fulham man has provided 29.
