Joe Aribo gets new coach at Southampton

As Saints appoint Nathan Jones as their new first team manager

Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo will be working under a new coach, Nathan Jones whose appointment was confirmed by Southampton on Thursday.

The 49-year-old joins from Luton Town to take over at Southampton after the departure of Ralph Hasenhuttl this week.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Jones said: “I’m really proud to be given this opportunity.

“I know a lot about the club from back in the days of The Dell, to coming here to St Mary’s, and it’s a wonderful football club.”

In his first spell at Luton between 2016 and 2019, Jones guided the Hatters from League Two to League One.

He then spent 18 months at Stoke City before returning to Kenilworth Road in May 2020.

Jones takes charge at Southampton with the club in the bottom three, having won only one of their last nine Premier League matches.

Aribo was signed from Scottish side, Rangers by Ralph Hasenhuttl and the Nigerian featured 15 times under his tutelage, starting 10 of 14 Premier League games and subbed on in one EFL (Carabao) Cup game.

His first match in charge of Saints will be against Liverpool this Saturday.
