Josh Maja set to return to England from France

Nigerian reportedly agrees five year deal with Championship side, Birmingham

Championship side Birmingham City have reportedly agreed a surprise deal to complete the signing of Nigerian striker Josh Maja from French Ligue 2 side Bordeaux.

The English club reportedly submitted an official bid that would see the player sign a five-year contract, according to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. He reports that the Englishman was expected to fly to England Wednesday night before doing a medical on deadline day.

Maja first came to prominence after breaking through the ranks at Sunderland after the club was relegated to League One.

Maja’s sojourn to the south of France has not been a success, however. He has found the net just 12 times in 53 appearances and has been loaned back to England twice

while his parent club suffered relegation to Ligue 2.

Stoke City signed him for the second half of last season, scoring twice in 17 appearances for the Potters.

He also spent six months on loan with Fulham the year prior to that, but could not provide the goals to avoid relegation from the Premier League, scoring three times in 15 games.
