Kayinsola Ajayi Named SEC Indoor Male Runner of the Year

Auburn University sprinter Kayinsola Ajayi has been named the Southeastern Conference, SEC, Indoor Male Runner of the Year, the league office announced Thursday.

The honour, decided by votes from SEC head coaches, marks another milestone in the Nigerian athlete’s rising career.

Ajayi captured the SEC indoor 60m championship two weeks ago, equaling a collegiate record with a winning time of 6.45 seconds.

The performance not only broke his own school record but also established him as the nation’s fastest in the event heading into the NCAA Indoor Championships.

This latest accolade adds to Ajayi’s growing list of achievements. He previously won the SEC indoor 60m crown as a freshman in 2024 and was named SEC Indoor Freshman Runner of the Year that same season.

His latest recognition makes him Auburn’s first male athlete to claim the league’s indoor runner of the year award.

Ajayi will lead Auburn University’s contingent of eight athletes competing at the NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where he enters as the top-ranked sprinter in the 60m.
